No apologies

“The space in which we live should be for the person we are becoming, not for the person we were in the past.” Kon Mari
There are often ideas we have about ourselves, that we are this way or that and cannot change.
Sometimes these ideas are true, but many times they limit us.
I used to think I was an extrovert. Happy to be in a crowd of people I don’t know, ready to go out at a moments notice. But as I worked to know myself more, I learned I am an outgoing introvert- able to strike up a conversation with a stranger but left exhausted by the interaction and ready for a book, a candle, and a cup of tea.
Our ideas hold power, for better or worse.
Often, our things are a manifestation of ideas we have about ourselves. For example, I used to have a home full of pink and lace and floral patterns because I told myself I liked those things. That they were “me.”
But they weren’t me, they were an idea I had about who or how I should be.
We need to allow ourselves to change and to grow.

This week, I was fortunate enough to be a part of my client’s becoming.
She is a strong, sensing, creative woman with amazing self insight. As we decluttered  her clothing and her books I saw more and more of each facet of her personality shine through. Not some idea of who she is but what she is made of.
She is made of beautiful materials and bright colors. Quotes and striking patterns. Scarves and special details.
She sparkles when she talks about the things she loves.
We cannot become what we want by remaining as we are. I gleaned from her a constant, never ending self improvement. If only we all had the ability to be so vulnerable and so strong.
Decluttering  can reveal who we are. Not the idea or the ideal, but who we are and who we want to become.

After decluttering my client shared this,
“The whole process was very cathartic. It’s amazing to me that even though I usually try and donate stuff every couple of months, I still had way too many items. It was great to relive memories through pieces and also to see my personal style come out.”
Now is the best time to start becoming.
More soon,
Bonnie Rae xx
