Hi there!
Through my exploration of minimalism, decluttering, and creating a simpler life I have downsized my beauty products and beauty routine.
Ultimately, I believe that beauty starts with what we put inside our bodies. If we don’t eat healthy, yummy foods or drink enough water then no amount of makeup or skincare will make any difference.
I eat a vegan diet with minimal sugar intake and I drink tons of water. I always start my day with a big glass of lemon water while I get ready and I don’t stop drinking water until I go to sleep. After caring for my body from the inside, I take care of the outside-below is a short description of my beauty routine and the products I use each day!
I take night time showers because I prefer letting my hair dry over night (I don’t use a hairdryer, I don’t even own one!) I only wash my hair, however, once every five days or so.
In the shower I use Alba shampoo and conditioner. It has 100% vegetarian ingredients, it’s non animal tested, and it is free of parabens, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances!
There are certainly more natural products to use such as coconut oil, or you can always cut out shampoo completely, but these hair care products work great for me!
I also use Origin’s Ginzing refreshing scrub cleanser. Orgin’s is a cruelty free brand, however, many makeup and skincare companies are required to test on animals if they sell in China- Origins is one of these brands. They only do this when required by law. Humane Society International and other groups are working to end animal testing and animal cruelty in China. I choose to donate monthly to the Humane Society to fund the amazing animal advocacy work they do.
Each dollar that we spend is a vote. With our money we tell companies what we want. When we support cruelty free brands we tell companies that we will no longer put up with the unnecessary cruelty and torture of animals.
Think about what your money is saying. What practices do you believe in? What practices are you supporting?
For face and body I use the following products-
I use Pacifica Indian Coconut Nectar dry roll-on to moisturize both my body and my face. I do this whenever I can with products-use one thing for multiple purposes. Also, Pacifica is a 100% cruelty free, vegan brand available at Target!
I use a combination essential oil with both sandalwood and jasmine for fragrance. My mom has used a combination of these two essential oils as perfume for as long as I can remember.
I am wary of the current essential oil craze with things such as doTERRA because my mom is an herbalist and I know how easy it can be to misuse or misunderstand essential oils.
If essential oils and herbs are something you truly want to learn more about I highly recommend checking out Susan Weed, she knows it all!
I do not wear makeup everyday anymore. On the weekends or days off I only use a little mascara! I like to let my face breathe and rest as much as possible.
I am currently using NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in the color Deauville. I plan to switch to a Pacifica foundation after I finish this one, but I am very careful not to waste products once I have purchased them.
To set I use Hourglass Ambient Light powder with a synthetic bristle brush! This particular product is 100% vegan but not all of their products are- here is a complete list of their vegan products.
For eyes and brows I use- Pacifica Stellar Gaze Mascara, Urban Decay Naked Pallet, and an Anastasia brow pencil in soft brown.
I eventually plan to switch completely to Pacfica products because I love their message and their ethics but I’ll use up these products first. They are great products to use, I just want to be sure the money I spend on beauty is going to a brand I trust completely.
I have decluttered so many products I used to have just sitting around. I do not buy “just in case” products or additional “back up” items- there’s no need!
The bathroom is a place where unnecessary products can build up quickly. Try pulling all of those items out and only keeping what you use daily.
There are also some toxic items I chose to cut out completely such as nail polish, nail polish remover, teeth whiteners, and more.
For oral care I oil pull once a week and sometimes I whiten with this simple recipe!
Simplifying your life is not just about getting rid of your stuff. It’s about crafting the life you want for yourself and taking real, practical steps to achieve that life.

Look at your current beauty routine. Check your bathroom cabinets, are there things you can let go of? Could you complete your beauty routine with less than 10 products? I bet you could!
