1.4.16 I said I’d never cut my hair…

Hi there! Happy 2016!
I’ve never been a huge fan of New Year’s before. The change from year to year felt lackluster and like people were making a big deal out of nothing.
But this time? 2016 feels good. It feels like a fresh start, or a time for positive transitions. Maybe it’s because I have been changing so much or because I’m growing up. Whatever the reason, hi 2016. I’m so glad you’re here.
Now, if you know me at all you know I always said I would never ever cut my hair. I had short hair throughout elementary, middle, and most of high school and by college I was sick of it. More than sick of it- I hated it. I was convinced people told me to have short hair so I would look ugly- that’s some serious “anti short hair” sentiment.

So, for the past six years I’ve had essentially the same hair cut. Long hair, long layers, and some sort of side bang.
Here is a picture montage of my six year hair cut. (You can scroll over pictures to see the year they are from)
In 2014 I added some blonde/ ombre, but you get the picture- same haircut for six years!
For the past few weeks my hair has not sparked joy. It actually made me really unhappy and stressed.
Hair is one of those things that seems unimportant or superficial but our hair is part of our identity. It can shape our personality, our mood- our style. Women’s hair has even shaped history! Click here- and check out”Liberation Hairdo.”
Since beginning my capsule wardrobe process I have been finding myself and my style. Because of minimalism and simplifying my life, something has shifted inside me. I wanted an external shift to match the internal one. Hair is good for that. To be an outlet for what we’re feeling.
So, here it is. My hello 2016, goodbye long hair, haircut.

I know I said I’d never cut my hair, but I’m so glad I changed my mind. We’re allowed to do that I think, change our minds and our hearts.
What about you? What kind of changes are you making right now?
I say we all take the opportunity to welcome 2016 and use this natural transition to make some goals, some resolutions, some changes.
Happy, happy New Year from my heart to yours (and from Kiley’s heart too).
More soon,
Bonnie Rae xx
